New at the USHJA Wheeler Museum

Curious about what makes a great Hunter, what the judge is looking for and even why Hunter riders dress as they do? The USHJA Wheeler Museum invites you to visit the newest exhibit, “From the Hunt Field to the International Hunter Derby: American Show Hunters.”

This exhibit showcases traditions of the Hunter ring from the origins in foxhunting through innovations that define the modern Hunter. Scrapbooks, vintage prize lists, portraits, and memorabilia from the USHJA Wheeler Museum permanent collection bring to life the beauty and athleticism of legendary Hunters and stories of how the sport has adapted through the decades.

A highlight of the exhibit is the National Show Hunter Hall of Fame’s photo collection of champion Hunters and riders, trainers, and owners whose vision of the ideal Hunter shaped the Show Hunter sport.

In Kentucky? Visit the Wheeler Museum Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the USHJA Headquarters at the Kentucky Horse Park.

Fun for the Whole Barn From June 15-July 15

The USHJA Horsemanship Quiz Stable Challenge kicks off this month! When at least three junior and/or amateur students per trainer take the online Horsemanship Quiz Challenge Practice Quiz, the trainer’s barn will be in the running for an award package. Plus, get bonus points by taking the official Horsemanship Quiz Challenge quizzes. On July 15, at the end of the 30-day challenge, the highest-scoring trainer per zone wins a prize!

Switching Disciplines with Maya Schneider

A longtime Hunter rider, Maya Schneider recently made the switch to the Jumper ring where she was a member of the winning 1.10/1.15m Adult Amateur Jumper team at the 2022 Markel/USHJA Zones 1&2 Jumper Team Championships.

Tune in as we chat all about her transition to Jumpers and her passion for inclusion in our sport as a member of USHJA's DEI committee and a manager of the @blackequestrians Instagram account. 

"My trainer was like, 'What do you think about doing a Jumper class?' In my head, I'm like how is that going to help him be my AO Hunter? And then I watched them that weekend in the Jumpers and I was like, well, clearly that's what he's supposed to do, so I'm willing to try it."

Find Your Zone's HOTY Championships

As part of the USHJA Zone Horse of the Year Program, each Zone hosts a Championship where members have the opportunity to compete in Zone HOTY sections and earn Championship Points. 📅 See the calendar to find yours⤵
