National, International and Pony Hunter Derby Updates and Reminders

Reminder: Pony Hunter Derby Ribbons

Hosting a USHJA Pony Hunter Derby in 2023? You can request ribbons from USHJA at least 60 days in advance by contacting Melanie Mader at mmader@ushja.org.

Reminder: National Hunter Derby Open Sections

Don't forget! The Open Section of a USHJA National Hunter Derby must be open to all exhibitors without restrictions. Once the Derby is split, Junior and Amateur riders may choose to compete in the Open Section. Cross-entry of horses between National Hunter Derby sections is not permitted once split.

Updates: International Hunter Derby Specifications

Note these important changes when hosting a USHJA International Hunter Derby in the 2023 competition year:

• No required jog! Horses must trot a circle on a loose rein at the end of the over fences performance. See section IV.
• Fewer required judges! For IHDs with $49,999 or less in prize money, a minimum of two judges are required. See section VII.
• No Handy bonus points! Only two scores will be required: base score + option bonus score (high options). See section VII.
• Hand-walking is no longer permitted during the Derby course walk. See sections XII and XIV.

Update: USHJA Young Jumper Championships Qualifying Classes

Qualifying classes for the USHJA Young Jumper Championships are discontinued in 2023. For 2023 renewals, please select ONLY the regular Young Jumper divisions on your license application. If you have already renewed for 2023, submit a license change through USEF here.

Don't forget to renew your USHJA Outreach competitions for 2023! Access the easy online application via your USHJA Membership portal. All competitions in a series can be listed on a single application.

USHJA 3'3" Adult Jumping Seat Medal Qualifying Class

Don't forget to add a qualifying class for the USHJA 3'3" Adult Jumping Seat Medal! This class can be combined with the USHJA 3'3" Junior Jumping Seat Medal to fill either section; just note the riders' section on your results to USEF.

Post Your Clinic to the USHJA Directory of Clinics

Did you know…USHJA Directory of Clinics listings are FREE for USHJA Affiliate Organizations, USHJA Recognized Riding Academies, unmounted clinics and if your clinician is an Olympian. Submitting an application is fast and easy, and your clinic will be promoted on ushja.org, in eNewsletters and on USHJA's social media.
