Save the Date for the Marshall & Sterling Insurance/USHJA National Championships

Returning to Las Vegas November 14-20, 2022, pending USEF approval, the Marshall & Sterling Insurance/USHJA National Championships are unlike any other championship experience currently offered for the Hunter and Jumper disciplines.
 
Riders will compete for National titles in their sections and Horse of the Year points while enjoying a unique venue.

Grant and Scholarship Opportunities 

The Hamel Family Scholarship for Further Education awards one or more USHJA members funds to be used for college, graduate, trade or professional school, totaling $25,000 each year. Apply by May 15!

The Emerson Burr Horsemanship Grant is awarded at the Zone and National level. Each winner at the zone level will receive a $100 grant to be used towards educational or equestrian related expenses. Junior riders competing in pony classes are eligible to participate in this program. Learn more and find a competition in your zone.

Outreach Member Highlight: Honor Coulter

Honor Coulter, of Hailey, Idaho, participated in the USHJA 2’6” Equitation and Hunters. 

What did you enjoy about participating in the Outreach program in 2021?

I really loved the opportunity to show at the Las Vegas National Show. It felt like a special experience and something totally different than the other shows I have been to. I was proud, competing as a 9-year-old, to have won Reserve Champion in both
the 14 and under Equitation division and the 2’ Hunter division at that show.

Tell us about how you got involved in the sport

My grandma had horses so I started riding with her and quickly realized the horse life was for me!

What’s your favorite riding memory?

My favorite memory from this year was earning a score of 86 on my first round in my very first Derby in Wilsonville, Oregon.

What are riding goals for this year?

This year I am planning to compete in the 3’ Equitation and Children’s Hunters and in as many Medal classes as I can!

What do you enjoy most about the USHJA community?

I love that USHJA is so supportive and proud of their members. There are tons of opportunities to be acknowledged for your achievements and cool opportunities to learn and grow as a rider.

Montana Hunter Jumper Association

Montana is happy to announce some super clinics coming to The Big Sky State. 

April 30-May 1 sees Olympian, Pan Am Games Gold Medalist and Canada Hall of Fame Jumper Lisa Carlsen coming to Tri-H Stables in Bozeman. 

Looking further ahead, there will be a Bjorn Ikast clinic on August 20-21 with details to come. For more information contact Allison at thebigskyclassic.com. 

On June 3-5 Kootenai Creek Equestrian Center will hold the first of two three-day clinics with Sally Collins. These clinics have become one of the most popular in the region and are hosted at the Barcus Arena near Hamilton. Sally is a nationally renowned judge, trainer, rider and clinician, known for her ability to help riders/horses work through and address challenges unique to their own circumstances. The second Sally Collins clinic is scheduled for July 15-17. For more information contact Malika at kootenaicreekequestriancenter.com.
