Makayla Gremeiner, Fayetteville Arkansas, participated in the USHJA Outreach 2'6" Hunter and Equitation sections, Future Jumpers and 18" Baby Green.
What did you enjoy about participating in the Outreach program in 2021?
The Outreach program allowed me to compete against riders outside of my local show. It’s always exciting to see how you’re doing compared to other riders. I feel like Zone 7 has so many great riders.
Tell us about how you got involved in the sport.
I wanted to ride since I could walk. My parent told me I needed to be 6 years old before I could take lessons. The day of my sixth birthday I remember asking, can I take lessons now? I have been riding ever since. I’m 15 now.
What’s your favorite riding memory?
Winning my first blue ribbon on my project pony. This pony had only been a leadline pony. She had never worn a bridle. She had all sorts of bad habits. The first show we went to she whinnied around the whole arena. The joke is that she can sing and dance. We have made great progress since.
What are riding goals for this year?
To be consistent and motivated.
What do you enjoy most about the USHJA community?
I love my barn family. I’m thankful to USHJA for the opportunities they provide.
