June 5 - Applications close and qualifying ends for the Zones 3 & 4 Markel/USHJA Zone Jumper Team Championships and qualifying ends for the Zones 3 & 4 Markel/USHJA Platinum Jumper Championships, both at Tryon Summer 6, July 20-24 *New: Zones 3 & 4 Platinum Jumper Championship applications close July 18*

Reminder!

Green Hunter Incentive horses may compete in two Green Hunter Incentive Regional Championships of their choice and must be enrolled. International Hunter Derby horses may compete in two International Hunter Derby Regional Championships of their choice and must be enrolled. Horses must have competed in one International Hunter Derby class during the current competition year to compete in an International Hunter Derby Regional Championship.

Grants and Scholarships

J.T. Tallon Memorial Equitation Grant

Apply for $1,000 to help attend a national Equitation championship at a fence height of 3' or higher.

Zone 3 College Scholarship

Apply for $2,000 to be used for college, graduate, trade or professional school.

Virginia Pony Breeders Association

The Virginia Pony Breeders Association's Annual Benefit Horse Show was held on April 23. The highest scoring Registered Virginia bred pony at the 2022 VPBA Benefit Horse Show was Big Bad Bunny, owned and ridden by Aubrey Jones of Frederick, Maryland. The 14-year-old Welsh/Thoroughbred bay mare was bred by Leslie Van Sant of Middleburg, Virginia, and is by Otteridge Foxtrot x Kate by Smart Alec.

Southwest Virginia Hunter Jumper Association

The Southwest Virginia Hunter Jumper Association would like to congratulate the following local riders on their performances at the 2022 IHSA Nationals:

• Madelyn Whitley – Champion Team Novice Equitation (Emory & Henry College)
• Emmy Longest - Champion Individual Open Flat (Sweet Briar College)

• Ella Peterson - 7th Team Intermediate Flat (Sweet Briar College)
• Sarah Southard - 3rd Team Novice (Sweet Briar College)
• Marran Vansickle - 4th Team Limit Fences (Sweet Briar College)
• Nina Hugi - 3rd Team Intermediate Fences (Sweet Briar College).

They would also like to congratulate the Emory & Henry College team for taking home the first place team award and the Sweet Briar College team for taking home the third place team award.
