Sophia Frisbie, of West Springfield, Massachusetts, participated in the USHJA Outreach 2' Equitation division.
What did you enjoy about participating in the Outreach program in 2021?
The best part about competing in the USHJA Outreach program in 2021 was riding with
a close group of friends from our barn- End of Hunt Equestrian Center in Suffield, Connecticut and doing it on a fantastic horse - Houdini.
Tell us how you got involved in the sport.
My mom got me on horses as soon as I was old enough to walk; she rode and competed from a young age and horses were a big part of her life. My favorite place to be is at the barn working or riding.
What’s your favorite riding memory?
My favorite riding memory is when I recently completed my first course in competition on my Rescue Horse: Sunday's Best, aka Samson. We rescued Samson in November of 2020 for my 16th birthday. Samson is a 7-year-old OTTB. Working with him over the last two years has been very rewarding.
What are riding goals for this year?
This year I am competing over fences with my rescue horse Samson for the first time. He is young and green, so we are just looking to focus on consistency throughout each course every time out. I will continue to show Houdini over fences and try to improve my equitation as well. Houdini is a veteran show horse who continues to help me grow as a competitor over fences.
What do you enjoy most about the USHJA community?
The best part of the USHJA community is participating in the program with my barn friends and trying to improve my rides every time out. I am very lucky to have great horses to ride and compete on. The horses give us their all and I always try to do the same.
